The Americans - We Need a New Vision for America

     Americans – If you care about The Constitution, The Republic, Your Safety, National Security, Freedom’s and your children’s future please read about Problem Solving for the many grave crises “We The People” are facing in America right now; today.

Then stop and think about what can be accomplished if everyone – “We The People” – band together peacefully and work the solution to preserve this once greatest nation on planet Earth. Everyone needs to take action – get involved – stand up – vote – to make the solution happen, especially for our children’s safety and future prosperity.

     Americans – Times have changed and if America and the Constitution are to be preserved, doing so must become every citizen’s first thoughts, actions and responsibility. As such a new “America First” mindset and political thrust will be required from each American, separate yet combined; therefore a few problem-solvers from “STAND UP AMERICA US” have decided it will take a new political movement with “America First” mindsets.

We must reverse the course of destruction. The destructive activities affecting our economy, the job killing initiatives, middle class disintegration, National Security and family safety/integrity lapses, along with gun control and amnesty attempts from self-serving, greedy, failed leadership – “destructions” – separately yet combined, now gravely facing “We The (non-elected and non-appointed) People” of America. A probable solution can be a new and dynamic movement and we want to know if you agree. Therefore we propose some or all of the following and request your input in our survey.

     Americans – Singular in name, yet basically requires banding together by We The People in order to preserve The Constitution, the Republic and the freedoms so bequeathed by our maker upon us and recognized by America’s forefathers and mothers, to be protected for all future generations.

We The People must have a government that has foremost in thought and action, the well-being of the citizens (sovereigns), their safety and National Security so as to become completely open, totally visible, and without questions. Truth and trust must prevail.

We The People will not be ruled, and self-serving, greedy, failed leadership is no longer an option. A deep look being taken by a few legal citizens who care deeply has prompted suggested solutions as outlined below.

If these legitimate key issues do not get voter attention from all parties then do not know what will.Most additional matters and issues are considered wedge issues and belong within the several States. Our focus on who can solve the nation’s problems is falling on what I call the forty year olds, 35-50 years old, the new warriors and leaders of our Country.

‘This will become the platform that Americans will campaign for and about the National good of the United States of America – We the People and Children for America’s future provided this survey with wide and timely enthusiasm’

 

The Constitution

The Constitution for the United States as originally Established and Amended will remain in absolute and total effect. The Original XIII Amendment as written and ratified is an operational Amendment and will be adhered to immediately. (The Original XIIIth Amendment was falsely hidden by less than honorable self-serving men of the times.) All Laws requiring Executive action will be faithfully executed upon receipt from Congress to and by the President and the appropriate Department’s and Selected Agency’s of Government.

Code of Honor

Americans need to subscribe to a code of honor. Our code at West Point: “A Cadet will not lie, cheat, steal or tolerate those who do.” Our candidates for office and those holding office need to make a honor oath to the people and uphold a Code of Honor and Ethics.

The US Military

The United States Military will in no way be used against United States Citizens. To do so will trigger expeditious Congressional or Judicial actions to immediately remove anyone exercising such UN-constitutional order’s from elected or appointed office. A strong Total Force Military Deterrent will be maintained at all times including a Nuclear Capability to win if Deterrence fails. America will not be placed at risk by disarming in any manner. The Military strategists with vision must continually develop a “Forward Strategy” for the United States to meet all domestic and foreign threats. The Military needs to realize their oath is to the Constitution and the American Citizens first and get engaged in partisan politics.

The Congress

It must be understood that Congress shall make all laws necessary for carrying into execution the Powers authorized in the Constitution and that all bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives. Constant Congressional leadership oversight will be maintained at all times. Term limits to members of Congress must be established for all members to ensure a political position is not a career thus allowing more people to serve the country. We need a formal written process to vet candidates with specified documentation and how that documentation is to be presented, examined, verified, certified, and accepted by a bi-partisan or non-partisan committee. There should be a severe penalty for any failure of this process.

Secure US Borders

All Secure Borders, Immigration and Invasion Laws will be executed by the President and the Executive Branch with absolutely no deviations authorized except through laws authorized by Congress. There will be no money appropriated and authorized for any illegal alien invader except for absolute life threatening emergency room care pending deportation. Anyone hiring illegal aliens for any and all types of work or disbursing federal or state funds of any type will be incarcerated for doing so. (American jobs must be reserved for returning discharged military personal, citizens and part time high-school students and retired elderly).

When US employers cannot locate citizen workers, Immigrant Work Permits will be issued to fill job requirements when fully justified. Also employer Impact Fees will be paid to local school systems and local hospital emergency rooms for every Immigrant Worker employed and accompanied family member.

Homeland Security

Closed with functions for national security returned to the Department of Defense and other previously established Departments.

Deregulation and De-legislation Program

An essential part of Federal Government restructuring is the elimination and revocation of excessive and non-essential regulations and legislation.

Coin and Issue Currency

The US Treasury under the laws established by the Congress shall become the only government Department or Agency authorized to coin and or issue currency in accordance with the Constitution. The Federal Reserve will be closed and all money functions returned to the Department of Treasury.

Strong National Defense and Forward Strategy

A Strong National Defense of trained Active Duty, Guard and Reserve Forces equipped with proper fighting equipment and led with America First Leadership in both the Executive and Legislative Branches of Government will be maintained for protection of “We The People” and the preservation of the Constitution and the Republic. Department of Defense will be restructured and streamlined to meet current and future threats to America.

Zero interest National Debt and No income Tax

Zero interest National Debt will be established and maintained and all income tax laws plus the IRS will be abolished. A minimum National Sales Tax Law will be established to meet an annual Budget that can be raised to a maximum of 3 percent annually if justified by a GDP growth of 3 percent annually. US Treasury Green Back currency will be the only currency (money) recognized and authorized by the United States Government. A limited time period will be established to trade one for one, authentic, Fed Res notes for Greenback treasury notes. (Manufacturing will move back to this country, jobs will quickly rebound, the economy will be greatly stimulated and America will flourish like never before).

The Department of Education

The Department of Education will be abolished and educational responsibilities as well as funding will be returned to each respective state, territories and the District of Columbia.

The Department of Energy

The Department of Energy will be abolished with government supporting the private sector in the development of energy sources. States will have more authority over the natural resources within the state borders.

The Environmental Protection Agency

The EPA shall be abolished with certain functions moved to the States and the private sector..

United Nations

Defund and move out of the United States to Athens, Greece.

The Internal Revenue Service

The IRS will be closed as a “fair or flat” tax will be established. The Treasury Department will collect all revenues and make disbursements under a revised tax sharing formula.

FEMA and DHS Planning

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be merged into Department of Interior and certain functions assigned to DOD and Interior and the Name will then be changed and become known as The Office of Security and Emergency. (Both functions have grown far beyond the intentions of reasonable and necessary budgeting, manpower, facilities and leadership control). Overall manning will be greatly reduced and all weapons, vehicles and ammunition of a military nature will be immediately transferred to the Dept. of Defense. Facilities that are UN-necessary will be closed and transferred to local governments.

Dispersed Departments and Agencies

Several Departments and Agencies will be dispersed (moved) from inside Washington DC into the interior for cost effective and dispersed long term security reasons. More diversified recruiting and hiring of high quality civilian personnel will be put into effect. (Rust-belt areas of high unemployment in the mid-west and other locations of far greater physical expansion capability will be given priority considerations for these moves). Relieving over crowded facilities and parking inside the Wash DC beltway has become a must consideration for this effective movement of Federal Government functions.

Perks and Other Costly US Government Benefits

Perks and benefit’s given to many government employees, elected, appointed and civil service will be reviewed and adjusted as necessary in keeping with good management and cost effective practices of a taxpayer paid government. (All limousines for transportation to and from the work place and other such perks provided at great taxpayer expense will be sold and drivers transferred to other appropriate jobs. All taxpayer funded Government travel will be greatly reduced to absolute necessity).

Executive Branch Union Support

The Executive order that allows unions to exist and do collective bargaining in any and all tax payer funded government jobs will be rescinded.

A Government Corporation

All reference to recognition and or operation of a Government Corporation inside the District of Columbia, so far hidden from the Sovereigns (We The People) will have absolutely no effect nor affect to the workings of The Constitution for the United States of America, The Three Branches of Fed. Govt., “We The People’s” Sovereignty, their (our) wealth and property nor any matter or issue to coin money and issue treasury currency, or any such matter to the contrary

Governmental/Constitutional Powers

The Power to make Laws and all other Powers vested by the Constitution as ordained and established by “We The People” in The Constitution for the United States for America also has Constitutional limitations and that must be recognized by all Three Branches of Federal Government. Any signature in making these Laws not in accordance with The Constitution will immediately cause any or all Laws so signed to immediately become null and void.

Any person or persons elected or appointed who have or are now ignoring or dismissing Constitutional responsibilities of responding to the people’s rights for a redress of grievances or to peacefully assemble will be immediately relieved of all duties and responsibilities until their “alleged” unconstitutional actions can be heard and proper response is forthcoming from an already or previously formed Grand Jury. Indictments will be tried by the appropriate jury. The People must be able to have faith that all Branches of Federal Government are in being for their protection and well-being and not have to hope that The United States Military is their only possible defense against tyranny.

A Constitutional Sheriff and Gun Control Policy

It will be the understanding and policy of this party to recognize each County Sheriff as the Elected Senior Law Enforcement Officer in each respective County and that a well-regulated militia, if formed, will be responsive to his Constitutional oath and requirements for the security of a free state. The right of people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed and will be protected by all Three Branches of Government as well as alert County Sheriffs.

Education, K-12 for Citizen School Children

Education is a fundamental right for American citizen school children and a responsibility of county and city taxpayers to insure funding for that right. Citizen school children in far too many public schools have been denied that fundamental right to an education due to handicaps in class room and interference caused by countless non English speaking children plus overcrowding and scarce tax dollars used to accommodate illegal alien school children. Some schools have over 30% illegal alien non English speaking attendance in class rooms and schools in South Western States. Their graduation rate is also far below national standards, with class room grades in the bottom of the 50 state standings.

This total lack of leadership is unfair to American citizen school children and taxpayers. The political illegal alien invasion of the United States is the root socioeconomic crises, cause.

Both Congress lack of effective leadership and the Executive Branch has not taken care that the laws be faithfully executed in dealing with serious national problems has resulted in an influx of uncountable millions of illegal aliens across our borders creating a grave socioeconomic dilemma that has not yet been fully assessed nor adequately addressed by the elected. Why? Because it seems the partisan political branches of government have failed to do so for self-serving and greedy political party reasons.

It will be an objective of a New Americans Party if formed to re-visit the 5 to 4 decision by the Burger Supreme Court that allowed all who chose to do so to attend any American public school. Even some who cross daily from Mexico to attend public schools in America? (With great wisdom and common sense Chief Justice Burger wrote the very logical dissenting opinion. American school children’s education and very scarce taxpayer dollars should no longer be sacrificed for political party expediency for votes and campaign cash – in a quest for partisan rule of America.

PPACA (ObamaCare) – The partisan Democrat sponsored Affordable Health Care Plan not yet fully implemented will be repealed completely and pre 2009 Medicare and Medicaid Programs will be fully reconstituted as was originally in effect. There will be no reductions or changes to the existing Social Security System.

General Policy – It will be the policy and practice for the AMERICANS PARTY to select and name the following candidates at least two years prior to the next General Election in 2016. This shall affect the following offices:

1. President of the United States
2. Vice President of the United States
3. Members for the House of Representatives in each State Congressional District
4. Members for the Senate in each State
5. The names are to be submitted for each Cabinet and Selected Agency appointment

This procedure will allow the American people to get to know the Candidates well plus the party policies that will compete for the elected leadership of the Executive and Legislative Branches of Federal Government. It will also give the voting public a reasonable understanding of the type nominations for The Supreme Court of the United States to be made as vacancies occur. From our studies at Stand Up America, we have estimated that 45% of our federal government can be dissolved.

Information – These issues as written above are the foundation, platform and policies of “Americans” that will be placed in effect if and when elected to the Legislative and Executive Branches of Federal Government.

Run as an “American” today at all levels of government and take away all the words that attempt to define you and place you in the Sea of Ambiguity of political right and left, progressive socialist and conservative. Two pandering poseurs at the final Senate debate by Jeff Jacoby

GALLUP REPORTED last week that Americans’ confidence in Congress has fallen to just 10 percent — an all-time low. After watching last night’s debate between Ed Markey and Gabriel Gomez, I don’t think the next US senator from Massachusetts is likely to reverse the public’s low opinion.

From the opening bell, Markey charged his opponent with advocating the “oldest, stalest Republican ideas.” Time and again he ran through the litany, determined to taint Gomez by association with positions held by the most conservative Republicans – on gun control, abortion, taxes, financial regulation, Social Security.

Yet is it really the “oldest, stalest” idea that Supreme Court nominees should be confirmed – as Gomez believes – not on the basis of a single ideological litmus test about the limits of Roe v. Wade, but on the strength of their scholarship and character?

Is it truly old and stale to suggest, as Gomez does, that any comprehensive reform of the tax code will have to mean putting even sacred cows like the mortgage-interest deduction up for discussion? Or is the real reactionary the candidate who flatly insists, as Markey did last night: “For me, that is off the table”?

The problem with Gomez isn’t that he is a right-wing Tea Party clone – plainly he’s not. It is that he gives every indication of running for the Senate merely because a seat happened to open up and he would like to be a senator.

“In the military we say, Lead or get out of the way,” he intoned several times last night, suggesting that he is the natural-born political leader Markey never was and never will be. “You’ve had 37 years down in DC,” he scolded his opponent over and over, and yet the nation still has serious problems – a $17 trillion debt, high unemployment, an entitlement crisis. “Give me 17 months,” he all but promised voters, and things will be better.

Lawmaking may not be rocket science, but candidates asking to be entrusted with senatorial authority ought to be willing to think and speak more seriously, and to show more respect for the voters’ intelligence, than either of these petulant pandering poseurs has done in this campaign.

One of those two characters will be the next senator from Massachusetts. If voters in a democracy get the government they deserve, what does that say about us?

Big Government is Stupid Government by Alan Caruba Online

Nothing enhances a president’s reputation than to be seen in the company of other world leaders and Obama will have an abundance of photo-ops as he meets in Ireland with the G8 to address the many woes of the world. Too bad they think he is a dunce.

Given the unrelenting headlines about the Obama administration, it is worth worrying that Big Government is Stupid Government. It is inherently a danger to freedom. Just ask anyone who ever lived under communism.

While there are many fine people in government, those at the top of the current roster seem to be a collection of the most incompetent, inept, naïve, ignorant, and uninformed morons to have ever gathered around that big table where the cabinet meets. If, in fact, they really do get together except for the occasional photo-op.

The last Secretary State and President-in-Waiting, Hillary Clinton, flew a million miles in the job, but no one can point to anything she actually accomplished and she, apparently, had no idea what was going on at State.

The present Secretary, John Kerry, is convinced that global warming is the greatest threat to, well,everything and is still trying to get the Palestinians to agree to peace terms with Israel; something they have refused to do since it opened doors for business in 1948.

Eric Holder, the Attorney General, cannot seem to remember anything. Usually you expect a lawyer to keep a few facts in mind such as the contents of the U.S. Constitution, but Holder is an exception or, like Obama, he read it and didn’t like it.

Other than Valerie Jarrett, only the White House reporters seem to know the names of his closest advisors. Tim Carney, the spokesman for Obama, has carved out a place in history as the biggest, lying weasel to ever hold that job. Oh how I miss the beautiful and intelligent Dana Parino, Bush43’s spokesperson. Happily I get to see her on “The Five”, a Fox News daily gab fest.

After Rahm Emanuel left the job as Obama’s chief of staff to become the Mayor of Chicago, the city has turned into a killing ground the equal of downtown Baghdad.

Obama is utterly devoted to Big Government and, thanks to Obamacare, the IRS is trying to hire the equivalent of an armed forces division to administer it. The popularity of Obamacare, plus the scandals, currently is plunging to depths that even the pollsters are beginning to measure in single digits. The President’s numbers are reaching new lows as well.

A notable aspect of Big Government is the increasing size of various pieces of legislation such as the so-called immigration reform and the Common Core education bills. Beginning life as No Child Left Behind under Bush43, this latter bill is not likely to be reauthorized. Any piece of legislation that exceeds a thousand or more pages in a one-size-fits-all is doomed to failure.

At this writing, the House is getting ready to vote for a trillion-dollar food stamp and farm bill about which few Americans are even aware. It’s a huge giveaway for a nation that is essentially broke. As Congress gets close to its summer break, all manner of comparable mischief will occur. Recall that Obamacare was passed on Christmas Eve 2009!

For the same reason, the ever-expanding surveillance of everyone’s electronic communications comes with the built-in limitation that the more signals intelligence it gathers, the less likely it will produce any results, except after the next attack. The NSA employs tens of thousands of analysts to deal with all the “signent” is acquires and, other than that which focuses on places like Yemen, the rest is not likely to yield much of value.

A government big enough to access every phone call and email from 310 million Americans is also failed to take serious action when the Russians warned that two jihadists were living in Boston.

The other aspect of Big Government is the way the Obama administration has enlarged the numbers of Americans receiving food stamps, disability payments, and other “free” stuff that is not free, but dependent on those who still have a job. Social Security and Medicare are barely solvent and Medicaid is bankrupting the states that must contribute to it.

According to the American Enterprise Institute, “The number of federal employees has risen under President Obama. There were 2,790,000 federal workers in January 2009 when the president took office, and now there are 2,804,000 workers. The fact is that there is no month during President Obama’s term when the federal workforce was smaller than it was in the first month of Mr. Obama’s presidency. The president took over in January 2009. Every month after January 2009 has seen more federal workers than were employed in January 2009.

It would be wrong to suggest that federal workers are not productive, but the sheer size of this workforce suggests that Big Government takes a lot of people out of the private sector and provides them with employment that comes with a multitude of perks that adds to the federal debt for which everyone must be taxed.

“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have,” is attributed to Thomas Jefferson, as is “Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” This was true in the 1700′s and is true today.

With considerable foresight, the Founders wanted a central government that was intended to remain limited in size, scope, and power. The Department of Homeland Security—the hasty reaction to 9/11—has metastasized into an Orwellian giant that should, at the earliest moment possible, be disassembled into its component parts.

The nation would no doubt benefit from putting an end to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Education, the government mortgage companies of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and comparable entities that are mostly the result of government’s vast expansion in the latter half of the last century and this new one.

Term limits is another idea worth considering. I sometimes think that the longer a Senator or Representative stays in Congress, the more senile, incompetent, and indifferent they become to the voters.

From what I can determine as I visit various blogs, forums, and websites intended to be read by conservatives, as a group we are very depressed, very angry, or moderately gleeful over the travails of a certain Mr. B.H. Obama. Or all three.

Obama has been the most unifying force for conservatism since the days of Ronald Reagan; only Reagan did it in a positive, uplifting fashion whereas Obama is seen as evil incarnate; incompetent; arrogant; ignorant of history, science, and economics; a Leftist ideologue; a man whose birth certificate and Social Security number appear to be fraudulent, and who is a liar on a daily basis.

Obama has probably caused more guns and ammunition to be purchased by Americans since the British invaded again in 1812.

Warning Signs Website

The revelations about NSA surveillance have caused a number of liberal activists such as Michael Moore and actor John Cusack to revise their opinion of Obama. The revelations about the IRS reinforced everyone’s fears of about this very scary agency. The questions about Benghazi remain unanswered by as the event fades into the past, there is concern they will disappear entirely.

There is increasing push-back against ObamaCare which is turning out to be a bureaucratic monstrosity and one that will be administered by that most beloved agency, the Internal Revenue Service. This is already a Democratic Party nightmare and one that will impact the 2014 midterm elections. Everything Obama told us about it has turned out to be a lie.

• It is causing people to be laid off or just not hired
• It is driving up insurance rates
• It is filled with hidden taxes

And yet, it is precisely because of the pain it is inflicting that should be a cause of celebration among conservatives. This and future generations will refer back to the “the horror, the horror, the horror” of ObamaCare.

A lot of people are among the unemployed and those numbers have not improved since Obama took office in 2009. Despite the multi-billion dollar “stimulus” and various bailouts the economy is barely showing any improvement.

Obama suffered a political setback in 2010 when the Republicans regained control of the House of Representatives. They have, in varying fits and spurts, managed to stall his ambition to “transform” America from the happy, prosperous nation it once was to a pit of despondency rivaled only by the former Soviet Union. He has withdrawn the nation from the leadership it exercised since the end of World War II and weakened our influence in the world.

After the 2012 elections, the Republican Party issued an “autopsy” of what went wrong. Only the GOP was not dead. Essentially it got mugged, but it is also true that lots of white people who might normally vote Republican stayed home. Data from the Center for Immigration Studies found that 4.7 million stayed home, of whom 4.2 million of them lacked a college education.

Conservatives do not want to hear Republicans in Congress talk about amnesty, but it is claimed that Hispanics could become Republicans by virtue of their conservative values. Meanwhile the immigration reform bill becomes more unpopular by the hour. Forty-four amendments were offered the day it was introduced in the Senate.

It is a legislative monstrosity with so many waivers and vague language that it will stop no one from coming here illegally and will deport the many who will head north. If the 1986 amnesty bill was so great, how come we have eleven million illegals? Or probably twice that many.

No conservative wants to let the President raise taxes on anything for any reason. This is, after all, a man who added three trillion dollars to the national debt in just his first term.

ObamaCare is a huge tax and hugely unpopular.

There is increasing alarm over a government that is accessing the phone records of millions of Verizon customers, whose Department of Home Security is stockpiling ammunition against civil unrest, whose IRS is targeting conservative groups, whose EPA favors environmental groups, and whose Department of Justice has targeted journalists for investigation.

In general there is a hard core of thirty percent of voters who have difficulty tying their shoe laces or grasping the meaning of a stop sign. Another twenty percent of liberals give no indication of thinking about the issues in a rational fashion. That leaves a disparate coalition of half the voters and disenchanted former Obama supporters to save us from further decline.

All this liberalism didn’t happen overnight. Starting in 1913, the income tax was introduced, the same year the Federal Reserve was created. This was followed, from the 1930s to the 1960s, by Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

In the 1960s we got the War on Poverty. If we adopted a Fair Tax, we would not need an IRS. Presumably, if the “entitlement” programs were administered as intended, they would be solvent. And if Santa Claus was real we would all get the presents we want on Christmas.

Rasmussen polling is showing that trends lines are all moving against Obama. On June 5 a poll demonstrated that 56% of likely voters “now consider the federal government a threat to individual rights rather than a protector of those rights.” That’s up 10 points since December. Other polling found that 57% want IRS offenders jailed or fired. 68% consider freedom of the press very important, and 42% think Eric Holder should resign.

If history is any guide the scandals afflicting Obama will gain sufficient momentum and mass to crush his messianic dreams and leave him looking a lot like Jimmy Carter. Or worse! The scandals all lead to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. So, if conservatives can be patient while also keeping the pressure on the Democrats and their Dear Leader, we may well be just a year and a few months away from a turnaround in the 2014 midterm elections.

We have a full bench warming up for 2016; Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Paul Ryan and Alan West, to name a few. A number of Democrats in Congress may well decide not to run for office again.

Obama will not be impeached. He will not resign. And, oddly enough, that is good news for conservatives when it comes to the forthcoming elections.

Employers are not immigration officers by Jeff Jacoby

IMMIGRATION REFORM is notoriously contentious. Yet it’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t think employers should be barred from hiring illegal immigrants — and sharply penalized if they do so.

When President Obama last week endorsed what he called the “common-sense, bipartisan” immigration package now before the Senate, he praised it for getting tough on “shady employers” who “knowingly hire undocumented workers.”

The White House website devotes an entire page to workplace enforcement of immigration restrictions. It leads off with the president’s call for “cracking down more forcefully” on companies that employ undocumented aliens, and boasts that his administration has imposed more than $100 million in employer sanctions since January 2009.

Whatever else may polarize Republicans and Democrats, on this issue they march in lockstep.

During the 2012 presidential campaign, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich favored intensifying the penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants. Romney drew flak for praising “self-deportation” — inducing undocumented workers to leave by making it impossible for them to find employment. On the Senate floor last Tuesday, Democrat Charles Schumer said essentially the same thing:

“Even if someone is able to get here illegally or overstays their visa, their main goal for being here — working — will be impossible after the bill is passed.… If we eliminate the jobs magnet, we eliminate illegal immigration.”

Even leading pro-immigration advocacy groups, such as ImmigrationWorks USA and America’s Voice, trumpet their support for “crack[ing] down hard” on “bad employers” who hire immigrants without legal work papers. They may have concerns about the details of workplace enforcement — especially the expanded use of E-Verify, the federal government’s electronic database for vetting job applicants.

But like most Americans — 85 percent, according to a recent Gallup Poll — they seem to regard it as in the natural order of things that the government should forbid the hiring of the illegal migrants, and that employers should have to check the residency status of anyone who applies for a job.

I cannot fathom why.

I don’t dispute that Washington has the authority to establish rules for immigrating to the United States, and to proceed against anyone caught violating those rules. But by what logic does that entitle Congress to turn employers into involuntary immigration agents, and to compel them to enforce a federal policy that the government couldn’t enforce?

It would be one thing to call for “cracking down hard” on an employer who hires someone to do work that is in itself illegal, fraudulent, or a threat to public safety. But why should a job applicant’s green-card or visa status — which is a matter between him and US immigration officials — impose obligations on an employer willing to pay him honest wages for honest labor?

If the law can ban a company from hiring a competent and peaceable worker who happens to be in the country without appropriate documents, can it also ban a company from hiring a worker who happens to be bankrupt? Or who has unpaid speeding tickets? Or who was once arrested for smoking marijuana?

The government can levy penalties on Americans who cheat on their tax returns; it can discipline airline passengers who refuse to undergo a security screening at the airport.

Does it follow that every employer, as part of its hiring process, can be required to check with the Internal Revenue Service or the Transportation Security Administration to make sure it doesn’t hire someone with a tax-code infraction or an airport security breach in his past?

Should employers also be prohibited from hiring anyone who has ever been caught violating traffic laws?

Can any legal skeleton in your closet be used by Congress not just to strip you of the right to work, but to punish any employer who hires you?

That was as it should be. Immigration enforcement is the government’s job, not the private sector’s. No employer should be punished because of an employee’s immigration problems. “Workplace enforcement” wasn’t an effective answer to illegal immigration in 1986; there is no reason to think harsher sanctions will prove more effective now. But whether or not such harshness is effective, any free society should find it offensive.

Even if it is the one piece of immigration “reform” that everyone agrees on.There is nothing self-evident about a federal prohibition on hiring illegal immigrants. It is an innovation that dates back only to 1986 and the passage of the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

Before then, as the Cato Institute’s Jim Harper notes, “employers were free to hire workers based on the skills and willingness they presented, and not their documents.”

Indeed, while federal law before then made “harboring” illegal aliens unlawful, it explicitly exempted employment from the definition of harboring.

When journalist Glenn Greenwald broke the news about The National Security Agency’s on-going collection of “information on all telephone calls” in Verizon’s vast network, the United States population exploded with questions.

While Greenwald says he doesn’t know if Verizon is the only telecom under the NSA’s spell, a flip back in time will reveal there are, more than likely, others involved.

Flash back to a December 16, 2005 article in the New York Times in which James Risen and Eric Lichtblau disclosed that the Bush era spy order began the virtual dragnet of customer communications involving AT&T and Verizon, Sprint Nextel and others.  One company that didn’t participate, Qwest, says it was approached about turning over their customer information in February 2001.

Anyone interested can get an overview of our country’s surveillance background by watching a clip from the widely acclaimed documentary, Washington, You’re Fired.

The Bush Era wiretaps were more than illegal though; they were unconstitutional.  Judges Vaughn Walker and Anna Diggs Taylor explained that in different decision about similar cases.

Today’s NSA/Verizon relationship is much like the Bush NSA/Telecom fiasco.

The more interesting part about the Obama and Bush spy programs is it’s not the first time portions of the United States general population have found themselves being surveilled.  The Supreme Court cases Katz v United States and Berger v New York, both from 1967, dealt with invasion of privacy and eavesdropping on telephone conversations.

What should be clear by now is that that this country has become a surveillance society, and it has been as far back as at least the 1960’s.

Something else well established is that the United States government is willing to break the law that governs them, the Constitution, in order to spy on the United States population.

Is it any wonder that people refer to the present conditions of the United States as a 1984 Society?

What If They Held a Primary and Nobody Came? by Michael Shannon

The Washington Post finally got its primary and in typical leftist fashion, they approved of the candidate selection method that was both inefficient and cost taxpayers the most.

Earlier this year the Posties criticized Republicans for using the convention method to choose their nominees — even though Lincoln was chosen by a convention and the Constitution was written at one.

The Post complained the 8,000 delegates that attended the Richmond convention were less than one percent of registered Republicans in the Commonwealth. And in fact, the editorial page was in such a snit over the Republican’s choice of a convention the page “did not make endorsements.” (Which explains all the black armbands on the convention floor being worn by former Bolling supporters.)

But an expensive Democrat primary where less than 3 percent of the voters bothered to make it to the polls is considered a triumph of participatory democracy on the Post editorial page. So now Virginia voters face the daunting prospect of a campaign spent listening to a lily–white ticket, composed of three middle–aged males that are obsessed with women’s reproductive organs.

And that’s just the Democrats!

Republicans in their “closed convention” somehow managed to choose the only minority on either statewide ticket, while a majority of Democrat primary voters refused to select either the Indian running for lieutenant governor (the sub–continent kind, not the Lone Ranger kind) or the black running for attorney general.

And talk about your social issue fanatics! Ralph Northam, the Democrat pick for lieutenant governor, ran a commercial before the primary where all he talks about is abortion. Northam declares, “There is no reason that a group of legislators, mostly men, should be telling women what they should and shouldn’t be doing with their bodies.”

Well that’s pretty definitive. But I have to ask: Does Northam’s declaration cover prostitution? Underage sex? Incest? Female–teacher–on–underage–male sex abuse? Flashing? Where, exactly does Northam draw the line?

Northam supporters keep mentioning that “he is the only physician in the VA Senate” as if that gives him special standing. But Northam is one of those doctors who have a loose interpretation of the Hippocratic Oath: First, do no harm. In Northam’s office you have to be large enough to hand over the co–pay before you are accorded the rights of a human being.

While Republicans Ken Cuccinelli and E. W. Jackson are talking about creating jobs and growing the economy, Northam advocates de–regulating abortion clinics and fighting passage of a bill that would grant “personhood” status to an unborn baby.

Northam’s ‘an abortion in every pot’ platform is particularly relevant when one remembers that the Posties have declared war on Jackson — who happens to be of the black persuasion — for his accurate, completely true remark that Planned Parenthood has been “far more lethal to black lives” than the Ku Klux Klan.

The WaPost responds by analogizing that, “Abortion rates in the United States are higher for African Americans and Hispanics than for other groups. That reflects the fact that those groups tend to have higher rates of unwanted pregnancies. To blame the incidence of abortion on the clinics that provide abortion services is like blaming stores that sell cigarettes for the fact that too many Americans smoke.”

This analogy is only accurate if the government is buying smokes for the underage and poor, while simultaneously discouraging abstinence.

At the victory celebration, Northam came this close to talking about an issue that would attract independents and soft Republicans, before he lapsed into pube–speak, “This state, in order to have business, in order to welcome people, we need to be inclusive. That starts with stopping the attack on women, the assault on the (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) community.”

Northam’s obsession with divisive social issues, instead of pocketbook issues, means that if you’re looking for a job in an abortion mill, Northam’s your man, otherwise it’s time to start listening to the Republicans.

Mark my words, during this election the Republican ticket will be talking about jobs, taxes and transportation, while the Democrats travel the state brandishing the bloody coat hanger and accusing the GOP of concentrating on “divisive social issues.” Psychiatrists call it projection.

Meanwhile the WaPost will be doing it’s best to drive E.W. Jackson out of the race. Right now the focus is on financial problems. Jackson was behind on his taxes and has filed for bankruptcy in the past. He is now current on all his tax bills, which puts him ahead of the 1,289 Treasury Department employees who collectively owe $9.3 million in back taxes.

Jackson also regrets his bankruptcy, “It was painful. It was difficult. It was embarrassing. I don’t like the idea of not paying off debts.” Compare Jackson’s situation to that of Democrat nominee for governor, Terry McAuliffe. He convinced the taxpayers of Mississippi to give his GreenTech company $7 million in “growth and prosperity” tax exemptions and another $8 million in grants, loans and land in return for building a factory, creating jobs and manufacturing “green” cars.

According to the Wall Street Journal, “…GreenTech looks to be a lemon…there is no evidence the company is manufacturing any cars…(it) has yet to begin building its flagship factory in Tunica. GreenTech is the latest proof…the political class is adept at hooking up cronies and investors with taxpayer dollars. But creating jobs? No can do.”

Rather than be tied down by bad publicity and previous commitments, McAuliffe resigned from GreenTech and walked away from all obligations, while Jackson stayed to face his.

But Jackson’s real sin, as far as the Posties are concerned, is that he’s a Tea Party conservative.

Jackson has escaped the Democrat Leftist plantation, once again pointing out the need for the Fugitive Minority Act (co–sponsored by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid) that would return ideological escapees to the Democrats for re–education and relieve the media of dealing with off–message minorities that do not support amnesty, abortion and alternate lifestyles.
