The only thing going for the GOP right now is that Ron Paul is still on their Presidential ticket. Much to the chagrin of the party, Paul brings support of many fed-up Democrats (Blue Republican!), Constitution Party and Libertarians, and young, fiscally conservative independents who are astoundingly constitutional and ready to be heard.
Dr. Paul has breathed new life into the GOP, as the caucuses have proven. Do they care? Will they embrace these people?
A recent CNN article talks about the GOP as aging and mostly white, the growing minority populations in the US and how Republican lawmakers don’t appeal to them. Paul’s message resonates with the very people the GOP needs to grow and compete politically. Paul’s message is clearly spelled out in the newest release by William Lewis Films, The Ron Paul Uprising:
“My goal was to shrink the size of government, balance our budget, pay the bills, have sound money and live within our means and mind our own business…”
“The GOP claims they want to unite the country and return to our constitutional roots. They’ve done neither. Their lack of attention to Paul, and the Constitution, is frustrating to potential Republicans,” says Gary Franchi, associate producer of the film.
Their 2008 Platform states their desire to “Constrain the federal government to its legitimate constitutional functions,” and empower people. But, bills such as the USA PATRIOT Act, its many extensions, the Bush Wall Street bailout, the recent NDAA (indefinite detention), and others, could not have passed without GOP legislators. To survive, the GOP needs to embrace young and minority voters, stop the empty rhetoric, and return to the Constitution.
William Lewis, director of The Ron Paul Uprising, says,
“If the GOP doesn’t want to become extinct, they better listen to the concerns of the people and change with the times. This can be conservative.
If not, they’ll lose much more than this presidential election, they’ll lose their ‘big party’ status and their voice.”
GOP, the truth will set you free . . .
editor note: In a recent communication with Sarah Palin, she noted that Dr. Paul needs to be ‘recognized as an integral part of this election process and should not be cast aside or ignored.’
