“History is written by the victors.” -Winston Churchill
The next type of historical documentation can only be considered an outright lie. It is the second-hand record of so-called facts that is recorded by self-proclaimed historical writers that are biased and subjectively false.
These so-called facts may not have anything to do with the overt reality of the time, nor is it necessarily based on any perceivable truth. It is not historical documentation, but an opinion, and so is untrustworthy.
Many historical accounts of war, and the affects of war are written in this manner. Surely the summation and accounts of war would differ by the teller, depending on what side you were on. One would think that the most unbiased history of war would only be gotten from a neutral source, if that is at all possible. What historical writer could be considered unbiased?
“History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.” -Winston Churchhill
The old adage: “History is written by the victor.” might also describe the recordings of the looser, written in the shadow of the first many years down the time-line. But it is doubtful that either one would be capable of giving a true picture of events, motivations, or truth. With time, many of the facts we thought accurate were later recanted as false.
One very good book that is dispelling these lies is by Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, LIES THE GOVERNMENT TOLD YOU.
Of all of the divertive histories told since WW2, one book has stood the test of time by documented evidence gathered by meticulous research. It has gotten international acclaim from both sides of the spectrum, from the Jerusalem Post, Los Angeles Times, Israel Holocaust Memorial, Chicago Tribune Magazine, and many others.
The name is “The Transfer Agreement“ by Edwin Black, and he is the New York Times best-selling author of IBM and the Holocaust, and the War Against the Weak. All of these are a must read for a historian who thinks history should be true.
“There are a terrible lot of lies going about the world, and the worst of it is that half of them are true.” -Winston Churchill
“In wartime, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.” -Winston Churchill
“Study history, study history. In history lies all the secrets of statecraft.” -Winston Churchill
“No one lies so boldly as the man who is indignant.” – Friedrich Nietzsche
