The Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA), codified at 18 U.S.C. § 922(q)) is a Federal United States Law that prohibits any individual from knowingly possessing a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a “school zone” as defined by 18 U.S.C. § 921(a) like the one in effect in Newtown.
A study pursuant to passage of the proposed BFSZA of 2013, being conducted by the Obama administration, is expected to sometimes be referred to as the Bomb-Free Social Zone Act of 2013, possibly in reference to S. 890 currently in existence.
